A rare image of public opinion on web 2 or web 3

Since inception a lot of people have shown nothing but to embrace the motion of web 3 being better than web 2. In this article we are going to review the basic difference(advantages/disadvantages) between the two, and hopefully we’ll come to a general conclusion.

According to encyclopedia Britanniaca at the first web 2 conference in 2004, web 2 was defined as ‘a web platform’ used to differentiate between the ‘www’ and ‘.com’ anyone can own and fully control a web 2 platform. In most cases it lays emphasis on social networking, cloud computing and user generated content comprising of different standalone companies, with the likes of Facebook(meta currently), Spotify, Airbnb… these companies where classical user of the web 2 platforms as it stand to be a general name for a system of different centralized operations.

Moving forward web 3 according to Investopedia is the iteration or next phase generation of web 2, this means that web 3 is the better version of web 2. where activities are not tie to a controlling body unlike web 2, it can also be termed as the Decentralized systems. Where communication is sole dependent on what is called ‘smart contracts’ examples are the Bitcoin, NFTs, and likes, the blockchain network dadada.

the rare chart of the evolution of the ‘web series’

Bellow are in no particular order what the variations and claims are;

Web 2;

Centralized systems

  • Participation in the network is controlled by a centralized authority.
  • The network can experience failure as a result of attack on the central body.
  • If there is lost of data or information from users, there are possible chances of retrieval when the central authority are contacted.
  • The central authority can sensor data, leading to a complete scrapping of particular part of the network from interacting with the other part of the network.
  • Its has higher performance and easy implementation, (with higher throughput and fewer rate of computational resources expanded)
  • Security of data is not dependable, as the central body have rights and access to your data, which could lead to so many act not in favor of the users.

Web 3;

Decentralized systems

  • Participation in a network is bondless, making it less expensive in cost and security.
  • Regardless of attack on the networks it never seize to function.
  • In the case where data is conflicting of lost, it take a lot of protocol to resolve the issue thereby causing time wastage.
  • Since the system does not operate from a particular source, member contribution cannot be altered or manipulated, there fore no censorship of information across the network.
  • Coordination is often termed as difficult, where no single person has a final say in network level decisions, protocol upgrade and so on, hence leading to consistent network fracture when there are no common grounds on protocol changes.
  • Data & information are said to be extra secured as no one has exclusive right or permission to temper with it.

With this we are save to say that web 3 is user friendly and web 2 is owner favored, which say a lot about why people prefers web 3.

The discussion about which is better is still ongoing as all of these systems have their obvious up and downsides. Feel free to add to my contribution in the comment section bellow and send a DM on my twitter anytime.

I’ll like to take this opportunity to acknowledge Blockgames, Nestcoin & Zuriteam for giving me this opportunity to write this little piece of mine. May your coast grow bigger In Jesus name.
Cheers!!!
